Dermal Fillers vs Botox

You may have heard of dermal fillers and Botox but aren’t too familiar with them. Read on to learn about what they are, how long it takes to see results and how much they cost in the UK.

What is Botox?

Botox is short for botulinum toxin, an injection that relaxes muscles in the face and helps to smooth out lines and wrinkles such as crow’s feet or forehead lines. Botox injections are not a long-term treatment, and the treatment area will require retreating every three months.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are also injections. In this case, a hyaluronic acid gel is injected into the face to add volume to the cheeks, change the jawline or prevent volume loss in other areas of the face. This substance occurs naturally in the skin, so this is a naturalistic way to keep skin supple. Natural hyaluronic acid production decreases as we age, so fillers help to combat the effects of aging.

There are different types of dermal fillers that can be injected into different parts of the face, one of the most common being lip fillers.

Botox and fillers are similar treatments, but their use cases and results can be quite different. The effects of Botox injections take about two weeks to reach their peak and last for around three months, while the effects of fillers are immediate and can last up to a year.

How long does it take for dermal fillers to settle?

The effects of fillers are immediate but take a while to settle and give the desired effect. Usually, it takes around four weeks to see what the final results will be.
